Slumberland - Group project

Explore children's fantasies

MyMachine is a cross-generational global initiative. Originating from Flanders, it connects students from different ages to work together to create machines that make dreams come true.  MyMachine is active in many institutions all around the world. Including the primary school in Ostend, Leefschool De Vlieger.

Thanks to them, we were able to collect ideas for dream machines, from a total of 44 children.

This project has put us on the path to create a game based on these designs/drawings. Our main goal is to implement all of them in some way into our game project, wether it is as a playable character or as a game mechanic.

The heart of this project is creativity and admiration. We want breath life into the dreams of the kids and show that having ideas is important, and that you shouldn't be afraid to express them. To learn what it takes to bring an idea to life.

About the project

This game was made for my group project at Digital Arts and Entertainment. We were a group of 7 students with different skillsets. Which meant that we all learned a lot from eachother during this project.

My contribution

I was mainly busy with game design during this project, seeing that we had 44 children's ideas to filter through, and represent in the game. When we were past the main chunk of game-design, I was mostly programming some of the features in the game. And lastly, at the end of production, I worked together with one of the artists, to design and implement the UI.
